Image of our weekly Love Project with our local organic farmer. They don’t always want to go, but once they go, they are always glad they did.
Did you know that in the average household by age 12, 75% of a parents time and influence is already spent?
Thus, they spend more time at school, camps and with friends than they do with their parents.
This percentage escalates with each year until they completely fly from the nest.
Meanwhile parents are often left to believe that their little adults don't need them as much, dropping boundaries and giving them more space then what they need, that often leaves teenagers feeling ambivalent, lonely and confused.
The truth is, teens need us more than ever to navigate through this changing era of time with balance and insight.
They appreciate you making plans with them, letting them know that you want to spend quality time with them. That you enjoy being with them.
They love that you come into their room to kiss them on the head and give them a hug, or say a prayer over their growing bodies as they fall into sleep.
They want you to create firm boundaries that help them feel safe and loved, and a sense that you really care about their well-being.
They need you to make decisions for them, to hold them accountable, and participate in experiences that matter, even when they act indifferent.
They thrive when you take time to really see them and share your observations about their uniqueness and magic they bring to the world.
Our teens need to hear our stories and the heard lessons we have had to learn.
They also need us to listen to their mistakes made and help them to see deeply into the truth of the matter, so they don't make those mistakes again, and can move forward living a more authentic and aligned life.
They will thank you for it, and you will rest easy knowing you did.
